The Strap-On and the Lost Key
I was hunting for the front-door key before the kettle had even boiled. I checked the coat pockets, then reached into the top drawer and my fingers hit the box. He stood at the stove, the dog already up on the counter, nose in the bread bag.
— Where’s the key? — I asked without turning.
— Don’t know. Maybe in the car.
I shooed the dog down and set the box on the table. The harness had been lying there for two weeks, only now it looked like any other thing next to the mugs.
Box in the top drawer
He never asked out loud. Most evenings he just watched my hands when I locked the belt. One night he said quietly, “Would you ever want to wear something else?” I said, “Maybe.” The box stayed.
That’s how pegging in our marriage began. I told him to strip to the waist and lie down. I put the harness on over his belt, the straps resting on metal. The buckles clicked once, dry and final. He kept his eyes on the sheet, breathing faster.
Pose and the weight of the straps
The strongest part wasn’t the movement. When I stood behind him and told him to drop his shoulders, he felt the weight across his back and said one word: “Yes.” In that moment said and done stopped being a phrase and became what was actually happening.
The hour of coming down came after. I moved slowly, listening to his breath. When he started pushing back I stopped and just held his hips. The pressure of the straps against the belt was what mattered most.
— You breathing? — I asked.
— Yeah.
No performance needed. Afterwards I took the harness off and left it on the chair. He put everything back in the box himself. We got into bed and his hand settled on my waist. I almost forgot the kitchen light and had to go back, tripping over a slipper.
Belt under the shirt
In the morning he put the kettle on. His shirt was tucked in, the belt still underneath. I hugged him from behind.
— Sleep all right?
— Fine. Thanks for leaving it out.
I nodded and went to get dressed. Rain was tapping the window. I still needed to swap the tires, but it could wait.
The fact matters more than the technique showed up in the way he sometimes touched the strap through his trousers, not from discomfort, just checking it was still there.
Weight on his back
He saw that I had taken the request and left it where it belonged. The position and the harness over the belt had done more than any motion could. I had been wrong at the start, thinking we needed something special. It turned out we only had to do it and not talk it to death afterwards.
Left on the chair
He stayed on his knees while I adjusted the straps. His breathing stayed even. The harness stayed on the chair until morning.
